Contemporary Watercolours was set up in 1987 as an arts alumni project whose purpose was to raise money for both artists and academe. It would be based on the creation of definitive watercolours of the buildings and surroundings embodied in our most treasured academic institutions. This embraced universities, schools and colleges, which contain some of the most splendid architecture in Britain. Limited edition prints have been made from these watercolours which have been signed and numbered by the artist and may be purchased from Contemporary Watercolours.

The schools featured in this book contain some of the most splendid architecture and scenery in The British Isles. The medium used by distinguished British artists, to portray all but one of the sixty five schools is the quintessentially British genre of watercolour painting which is ideal for the portrayal of architectural subjects. The genesis for most of this collection of watercolours, are the series of paintings commissioned, by Contemporary Watercolours, from which limited edition prints have been made. These have been produced over a period of 25 years and encompass the whole of the British Isles including all but six of the forty traditional counties of England.
